What is Planet Khaos all about?
I had a simple idea that grew in scope very quickly. I wanted to create a fantasy world where I could place my stories. I knew in time I would publish a comic book or graphic novel or illustrated novel set on this new world.
I called the new world Kh'Aos (pronounced ka A-os) for reasons that will become apparent as the story unfolds. And as all creative endeavors demand, I knew I'd need a website to start promoting the work, and communicating with potential fans. That is the plan at least. So that's where this website came into play, PlanetKhaos.com, where you are now.
So in terms of correct usage, Kh'Aos is the fictional planet, while Planet Khaos is the web site. You'll see both variants used often so I figured to explain that up front.
Soon, I realized how massive an undertaking it really is to create your own world. Coupled with the fact that Kh'Aos is a super-planet - a rocky planet around the size of Saturn and the scope of this world creation increased 100 fold.
J.R.R. Tolkien is famous for spending his life creating Middle Earth for his books - The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and so many more written later by Christopher Tolkien. That is part of the magic of his work. He was so passionate about his stories that Middle Earth lived, in spirit, for so many fans. It had a mythology all it's own. It had a long history. It had legends, myths, good and evil pantheons, politics...it had it all.
After realizing how large this task would be, creating a full world the size of Saturn, with races, nations, lands, gods, and creatures, I had an idea. At the moment I thought it might be an original idea but I have learned since, that is not the case. I thought how great would it be to have a crowd-created world where other writers, artists, and fans of fantasy could contribute toward the creation of Kh'Aos.
The planet itself is large enough for many primary races, perhaps 12 or more, along with dozens or hundreds of races with much smaller populations. To me, this was an exciting concept. The sheer scale of the world offers creative opportunities you might not think of using with a smaller world concept.
So thats where we stand today. The world is open to contributors. You can stake a claim on Kh'Aos and start creating. Perhaps you want to bounce your story off another's work. Thats ok. Perhaps you want to create a race, or pantheon, or just general history? Maybe you want to draw up the maps? Any an all contributions are welcomed.
If you are interested in joining forces and creating this world together, please review the Submission Guidelines as there are some rules to what can be submitted or how they are submitted. For the most part, there will not be any censorship to the contributions. The rules are meant only to contain the contributions so that all contributions can work harmoniously together.
Another goal I have for this web site, is it could be a good source of referral traffic for contributors or fans alike. While many forums restrict your ability to self promote, Planet Khaos will allow and encourage self promotion. Check out The Tavern for a place to promote your own art and writings, or post want ads if you are looking to team up with other artists.
Above all else have fun, I look forward to meeting everyone and I look forward to those contributions. And if you have suggestions on how to make this web site a better place to hang out, please drop me a line.
